This is where Oscar’s dad and mom document the progress of making a set of wooden blocks for Oscar. The inspiration of this endeavor was when Oscar’s dad remembered playing with wooden blocks with letters on them at his grandparents house when he was a child. After a little playing around on the computer and modeling in FreeCAD Oscar’s dad was able to print a few blocks on his 3D printer. Several iterations later, a roll of light brown PLA filament was ordered and printing of the first full set of blocks began. After what seemed like a long time, ~40 hours of printing, letters A-Z and 0-9 were printed. It was no great feat of impressive 3D printing, however the blocks looked like blocks and seemed pretty good.
Now you are all caught up on the progress and we can continue on and document the progress. The plan is to determine the best way to paint the blocks and what type of paint to use that will be safe for Oscar. After that, it would be cool to get a desktop CNC machine and use it to make actual wooden blocks for Oscar to grow up playing with.
